Confermata per il 30 Giugno la "fine" di Windows XP

La "sentenza" di morte di Windows XP è stata confermata.
Attraverso una lettera inviata alle sue aziende partner, Microsoft ha comunicato che, dal prossimo 30 Giugno, la società non commercializzerà più Windows XP.
Non è prevista alcuna eccezione: il sistema operativo non sarà più venduto né in versione "pacchettizzata" né concessa in versione OEM.

L'annuncio di Microsoft rigetta di fatto la petizione promossa da circa 100.000 utenti che avevano pubblicamente richiesto un prolungamento della "vita" di Windows XP.

I produttori di personal computer, purtuttavia, potranno continuare a vendere sistemi con Windows XP preinstallato, almeno fino al 31 Gennaio 2009.
 
Microsoft, da parte sua, rilascerà patch ed aggiornamenti critici per il sistema operativo fino al mese di Aprile 2014.

Agli utenti di Windows Vista Business, Ultimate ed Enterprise continuerà ad essere permesso il "downgrade" a Windows XP.

Bill Veghte, uno dei responsabili Microsoft, ha dichiarato: "le modifiche architetturali e le migliorie in termini di sicurezza che sono state introdotte in Windows Vista hanno causato qualche incompatibilità con hardware ed applicazioni già presenti sul mercato e già in uso tra gli utenti". Veghte ha comunque voluto sottolineare come siano stati compiuti grandi sforzi per risolvere tali problematiche.

Leggere documenti Word 2007 (docx) senza Office 2007

Vi siete mai chiesti se sia in qualche modo possibile leggere il contenuto di un documento Word 2007 su sistemi ove non risulti installato Microsoft Office 2007?

La soluzione esiste ed è molto semplice da applicare. I documenti salvati in formato .docx sono stati creati con Word 2007 secondo le specifiche Office Open OXML, approvate anche dall'ISO dopo una serie di sedute particolarmente tribolate (ved. queste notizie).

In ogni file .docx è contenuto un documento .xml che ospita la struttura ed i testi veri e propri.

Nel caso abbiate urgenza di visionare il contenuto di un file .docx su sistemi sprovvisti di Office 2007, è sufficiente applicare un semplice trucco.
In primo luogo il file .docx va rinominato con estensione .zip (ad esempio, miodocumento.docx diventa miodocumento.zip).
Come secondo passo, è necessario estrarre il contenuto dell'archivio Zip in una cartella di propria scelta, sul disco fisso infine accedere alla sottocartella word.
Al suo interno, dovrebbe essere presente un file denominato document.xml: aprendo il file XML con Internet Explorer o con un altro browser web si potrà così esaminare il contenuto del documento Word.

E' ovvio che si perderà ogni tipo di formattazione ma se l'obiettivo consiste unicamente nell'avere la possibilità di esaminare il testo, l'espediente illustrato consentirà di risolvere brillantamente il problema senza installare alcun componente aggiuntivo.

Le eventuali immagini utilizzate nel documento OXML saranno comunque memorizzate in una sottocartella denominata media.

Il tip, come illustrato in precedenza, intende evitare l'installazione di qualsiasi software aggiuntivo. Come noto, ricordiamo comunque che Microsoft offre una serie di programmi "Viewer" per tutte le versioni di Office. Tali software, completamente gratuiti, permettono di visualizzare i documenti prodotti con Office 2007 o con versioni precedenti della suite per l'ufficio.

Gmail e TIM: notifica via sms

Per quanto completo ed efficiente possa essere il servizio di posta Gmail purtroppo non consente la notifica delle mail via sms, opzione molto utile per chi non sta al pc e vuole tenersi informato sulle email che arrivano alla propria casella di posta gmail e magari leggerle sul proprio cellulare.
Tanti altri servizi di posta includono la notifica via sms nelle opzioni a pagamento, non credo siete disposti a pagare per questo tipo di servizio anche perchè se si utilizza un cellulare con scheda TIM e un account di posta Gmail, in pochi minuti possiamo avere tutto gratuitamente.

Come procedere:

Attivare un account tim con il proprio numero di cellulare (es. 333123456@tim.it), le istruzioni qui

Accedere alla casella tim i-box, cliccare su Personalizza e poi Notifiche SMS e assicurarsi che Avvisami sia impostato su Sempre come in figura.

L'attivazione e la ricezione degli SMS di notifica sono gratuite

Adesso accediamo al nostro account Gmail, clicchiamo su Impostazioni (in alto a destra), selezioniamo Inoltro e POP, spuntiamo "inoltra una copia dei messaggi in arrivo a" e inseriamo l'account di posta tim (es. 333123456@tim.it) come in figura.

In fine clicchiamo su Salva modifiche

D'ora in poi, quando arriverà una mail al vostro indirizzo Gmail, automaticamente verrà inoltrata all'account TIM che invierà un sms di notifica al vostro numero di cellulare (TIM) indicando l'indirizzo email di chi vi ha scritto.
Ho testato solo su TIM per esigenze personali, credo sia l'unica a fornire sms di notifica senza dover spendere una lira, se provate con altri gestori fatemi sapere.
